Newspaper

Mass media refers collectively to all media technologies that are intended to reach a large audience via mass communication. Broadcast media (also known as electronic media) transmit their information electronically and comprise of television, film and radio, movies, CDs, DVDs and some other gadgets like cameras or video consoles. Alternatively, print media uses a physical object as a means of sending their information, such as a newspaper, magazines, brochures, newsletters, books, leaflets and pamphlets.

I would like to tell something about this kind of media like newspapers.

A newspaper is a scheduled publication containing news of current events, informative articles, diverse features and advertising. This is a very popular form of media, and with the advent of the Internet, newspaper publications were not only printed on paper, but also appeared online. It's quite convenient. You do not need to go outside to read about what is happening in the world, because the Internet is today almost every dwelling. To tell the truth online newspapers use only young people, because there are few of older people who would know how to use computers.

I decided to review several online newspapers and research about what modern journalists write? What news is relevant today in the U.S.? After typing in the search for "e-newspaper US" I was very surprised exceptional number of newspapers that offered me. It turns out that only in New York there are about 426 online newspapers.  I hope you remember that America has 50 states.  For my research, I took three electronic editions: Daily News (the newspaper of New-York), Times Daily (the newspaper of Alabama) and Duluth News Tribune (The newspaper of Minnesota).

It turned out that there are a lot of topics on which modern journalists write. First, each local newspaper wrote about the news that occurred in a particular state or city. But they also do not forget about the news regarding the country as a whole.  News all the newspapers that I visited are divided into sections. Sections are not always equally named, but the information they give nearly the same.  So I can call you the following sections: News, Sports, Opinion, Entertainment, Life, Obituaries, some newspapers also added gossip. News section in its turn is divided into:  National, World, Desi, Politics, Crime, Money, The Week; Sports section is divided into: Baseball, Football, Basketball,   Hockey,  College,  I-Team, High School,  More Sports; Entertainment is divided into: Movies, Television,  Music & Arts, Comics, Contests, Horoscopes.

Having investigated the category of news I can say that the most popular topic of the article is of course elections 2012 in America.  All sites posted photos of Obama and next to them are published articles, revealing the latest news about his activities. Also in this category is given a great local news about various crimes,  it is a shame, but the crimes happen in our time too often. Robbery, murder, drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse - became obligatory news in daily newspapers.

Another category that I reviewed was Sport. Speaking the truth sports interest me very little and I superficially acquainted with sports news. In this subject much attention paid to news about football, basketball, hockey games, because these sports are very popular in America. There are many articles devoted to sports stars, which tells about the news of their lives, the clubs in which they move and the wages are paid to them for participation in games.

For me the most interesting section of the e-newspaper is Entertainment. This section is devoted to news about movies, music, theater, comics and television. Here you can find news about movie stars, singers, dancers and celebrities in general. You can read a variety of interesting gossip about celebritie’s nightly adventures, on their personal and professional life. Of course, these rumors may be true and not true.

Of course the above mentioned categories aimed at specific readers. Because there are people that don’t like to read about politics, business or sports. Some read only the news about celebrities, some - only column of the crimes. That's why editors have to create a wide range of materials to encourage everyone to read newspapers. And this is exactly what they do. Today electronic newspaper publishes an extraordinary amount of useful information. I think it can be used in order to keep abreast of world events and it can help in learning foreign languages. For example, if you learn English you need to read a lot to constantly replenish your vocabulary. And where as not in the newspapers in the original language, you can see a lot of useful information that will help not only learn a lot of English words, but also learn about the culture, traditions and events that occur in English speaking countries. Also, each teacher can use the e-newspaper in order to encourage students to read, analyze what they have read and to teach them to write their own articles by example of newspaper articles.

At the end of my research, we can conclude that the e-newspaper is a huge treasure of information that can be used both for teaching and learning, and in order to keep abreast of current events.
